I.R.I.E. is an acronym for Integration, Respect, Inclusion and Empowerment. It is also a word that expresses positiveness in the afro-Caribbean culture.
I.R.I.E. Mind is a comprehensive and holistic centre for recovery and social inclusion which targets marginalized, at risk and disengaged service users in Hackney. Most of our clients have a long history of severe and enduring mental health problems, multiple traumas and struggle with substance and alcohol misuse.
Our mission is to support clients throughout their journey towards recovery from ill-health. We focus on supporting clients to improve their mental and physical wellbeing, to redress health and social inequalities, and to increase choice and access to high quality treatment throughout:
- Easy to access drop-in support for hard-to-reach and marginalized BME groups. Support is provided through one-to-one counselling and support sessions, therapeutic groups, activities and complex casework
- Star Recovery ad W.R.A.P.( Wellness Recovery Action Plan) principals used to support service users to achieve highest levels of independence and stability possible
- Crisis Intervention and prevention work, particularly for clients at risk of self-harm, hospitalization, incarceration and offending behaviours
- Practical support and referals to facilitate greater access to meaningful participation in the wider community
- Additional evidence based practices ( Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused Therapies) to reduce damage to mental and physical health as a result of poor self-care and destructive lifestyle factors
- Collaboration and partnership working to promote holistic practice and "lifetime" wellbeing
- Fighting against stigma and discrimination and educating the wider community around mental illness and recovery principles
- Involving and consulting with clients around quality and service provision
Staff engage with clients individually on a key working system where clients will write their Recovery Plan. As part of the plan, clients will join at least one of the therapeutic groups below:
- Women’s Group
- BME recovery Group (males only)
