Other Activities

Starting in the New Year we will be running an 8-week course for users who suffer with recurrent depression. See details below.

Living Well with Recurrent Depression
Date: 23 January to 13 March 2007
Time: Tuesday afternoons 1-3.30pm
Venue: City and Hackney Mind, 8-10 Tudor Road, London E9 7SN

Are you thinking of ways to improve your chances of preventing further episodes of depression?

The course is based on Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) specially developed for those who have recurrent depression. It is designed to help you learn new ways of handling difficult experiences, feelings and moods. The group experience provides an opportunity to share experiences and the practice of these new skills with others.

What are the benefits of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy?

  • You will become more emotionally aware and feel more in control of your life.
  • Communicate more clearly.
  • Live more in the present.
  • Develop skills and knowledge to make informed choices.

Who is the course for

  • Anyone who has experienced depression in the past and wants to learn new skills to manage recurrent depression or to stop it recurring.
  • Anyone who lives or works in Hackney and is on a low income

To get the most from the course

You will need to attend the course for 8 weeks.

As you will be exploring old ways of thinking that may have been around for a long time. It is important that you make time to practice the new skills in-between sessions.

Cost

We are not charging for the course but would appreciate a donation towards materials. Suggested donation of £10-15. Alternatively please donate what you can afford.

Bookings

If you are interested in taking part in the course you may be required to attend an assessment. This can be arranged by contacting Gwen Williams or Becky Ridgewell on 020 8985 4239 or 020 8525 2319.
