City and Hackney Mind Carers Support Service
City and Hackney Mind Carers Service provides emotional support and information for residents living in the borough of Hackney who support or care for a partner, family member, friend or neighbour with a mental health problem.
Who are Carers?
- Carers are family members, partners, friends or neighbours.
- You may not live with the person you care for.
- You are a carer if you provide unpaid, practical and/or emotional support to someone with a mental health problem.
- The term ‘mental health problem’ describes common mental illness such as depression or severe and enduring illness such as schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder (manic depression).
Caring for someone can be isolating and demanding, both physically and emotionally. Being a Carer can put extra strain on you, especially as you have to carry on with your own life as well. When the person you care for is ill their behaviour may change, this may make things difficult to cope with and you may just need extra support to enable you to support you with your caring role.
What does the service offer?
- One to one emotional support in confidence when you need a friendly listening ear.
- Information and advice to help support you in your caring role.
- A Carers Support Group where carers can meet for mutual support, share experiences in an informal and friendly setting.
- Signposting to other services to assist you in caring of supporting a partner, family member or neighbour with who is experiencing mental health problems.
